Looking to tonight's matchup with Dallas, we look into the Eagles past success and failure in this fixture. The Eagles and Cowboys have a long history as one of the biggest rivalries in the National Football League. For two weeks every year all of Philadelphia is focused on one thing, "Beat Dallas." But how much success have the Eagles actually had against their fierce rival?
The Birds and the Boys first met in 1960, with the Eagles coming out victorious. The last time they played was at the end of last season, a 34-14 loss for the Eagles.
Over the history of the rivalry, there have been plenty of memorable moments. If you lose it's pure heartbreak, if you win, pure joy that lasts until next Sunday. Unfortunately the Eagles trail the Cowboys when it comes to head to head matchups. Including playoffs, Dallas leads the series 70-54. In more recent history the Eagles have lost 6 of the last 10 games to the Cowboys (although one of the losses was a starter rested Cowboys win to end the 2017 regular season).
The Eagles will try to break a three game losing streak in Dallas. The Eagles have had their fair share of losing streaks against the Cowboys, their last three game losing streak in Dallas was between 2008 and 2010, with one of those games being a playoff game. The following season they won in Dallas. Before that, in the 90's, Dallas won 7 straight games against the Birds. Looking back at the history of the Eagles losing streaks in Dallas, they seem to end at three games unless Dallas is in the middle of a dominant stretch in the rivalry. Hopefully the Eagles can continue this trend and stop the streak at three games.
Lastly, the Eagles and Cowboys are facing off for the first time on Monday Night since 2008. Overall, Philadelphia is 5-7 versus Dallas on Monday Night football, with the first meeting in 1974. The Eagles are 3-4 on the road in Monday Night matchups. Although both of those are losing records, the Eagles have played well at AT&T Stadium since it opened. Hopefully the Eagles can get a win tonight to improve their record against Dallas on Mondays and take control over the NFC East early in the season.
